Αυτή την Πέμπτη 10.1.19, στις 8.30μμ στο Στέκι Μεταναστών, η Κιουρί@ υποδέχεται την θεωρητικό και συγγραφέα Sophie Richter-Devroe, η οποία θα παρουσιάσει το βιβλίο της “Women’s political activism in Palestine: peacebuilding, resistance, and survival”. Μετά την παρουσίαση θα ακολουθήσει συζήτηση με τη συγγραφέα, ενώ μετά τη συζήτηση θα ακολουθήσει χαλαρό ποτό, στο πλαίσιο της καθιερωμένης πλέον μηνιαίας βάρδιας της ομάδας (μετά το χαλαρό ποτό παραμένει άγνωστο το τι θα ακολουθήσει).

Λίγα λόγια για το βιβλίο…

Κατά τη διάρκεια των τελευταίων είκοσι ετών, οι Παλαιστίνιες ασκούν δημιουργικές και συχνά άτυπες μορφές πολιτικής δράσης. Η Sophie Richter-Devroe στέφει τη σκέψη της στον αγώνα τους να φέρουν κοινωνική και πολιτική αλλαγή.

Η εθνογραφική προσέγγιση της Richter-Devroe αντλεί από αποκαλυπτικές εις βάθος συνεντεύξεις και συμμετοχική παρακολούθηση στην Παλαιστίνη. Το αποτέλεσμα: μια έντονη κριτική στη συστημική μέθοδο επίλυσης συγκρούσεων και στα αποτυχημένα γυναίκα-προς-γυναίκα ειρηνευτικά πρότζεκτ, που τόσο έχουν εγκομιστεί παγκοσμίως. Η φιλελεύθερη πίστη στο διάλογο ως πυρήνας “του πολιτικού” και η υπόθεση ότι οι γυναίκες ως φύσει “τροφοί” υπερέχουν ως ειρηνευτές, καταρρέει μπροστά στις παρελθούσες και συνεχιζόμενες βιαιότητες του Ισραηλινού κράτους. Αντίθετα, οι γυναίκες συγκρούονται με την Ισραηλινή αποικιοκρατία των επικοισμών.άμεσα και έμεσα στις λαικές και καθημερινές πράξεις αντίστασης. Η ανάλυση της Richter-Devroe επικεντρώνεται στις περίπλοκες δυναμικές της καθημερινής ζωής στην Παλαιστίνη, ιχνηλατώντας τις καινοφανείς πολιτικές που οι γυναίκες αρθρώνουν και ασκούν εκεί. Φωτίζοντας την σύγχρονη έμφυλη “πολιτική από τα κάτω” στην περιοχή, το βιβλίο προσκαλεί σε ένα αναστοχασμό της λειτουργίας, των μορφών και των ορίων του πολιτικού.

This Thursday, 10.1.2019, at 20:00 in Migrants Social Center,Tsamadou 13a, Kiouri@ feminist and lgbtq group welcomes the thinker and writer, Sophie Richter-Devroe, who will present her book “Women’s political activism in Palestine: peacebuilding, resistance, and survival“. Following the presentation, we will have the chance to discuss with the author about the book, while after the discussion we will have the chance to enjoy ourselves with a casual drink (after the casual drink, remains unknown what might follow….).

About the book…

During the last twenty years, Palestinian women have practiced creative and often informal everyday forms of political activism. Sophie Richter-Devroe reflects on their struggles to bring about social and political change.

Richter-Devroe’s ethnographic approach draws from revealing in-depth interviews and participant observation in Palestine. The result: a forceful critique of mainstream conflict resolution methods and the failed woman-to-woman peacebuilding projects so lauded around the world. The liberal faith in dialogue as core of “the political” and the assumption that women’s “nurturing” nature makes them superior peacemakers, collapse in the face of past and ongoing Israeli state violences.

Instead, women confront Israeli settler colonialism directly and indirectly in their popular and everyday acts of resistance. Richter-Devroe’s analysis zooms in on the intricate dynamics of daily life in Palestine, tracing the emergent politics that women articulate and practice there. In shedding light on contemporary gendered “politics from below” in the region, the book invites a rethinking of the workings, shapes, and boundaries of the political.
